Fragment features a RH melody with wave-like eighth-note patterns throughout. Middle section features big rolled chords. Very idiomatic composition.
Lloyd Vick (1915-2014) was born in South Australia, and his musical education was undertaken at the Elder Conservatorium in Adelaide. His studies got interrupted first by the Depression and later during World War II when Vick served in the Australian Army for five years. He completed his degree after the war and continued his studies independently, spending time in England as well as the US, visiting various colleges and universities.
His first teaching position was as Lecturer in Musical Composition at the Elder Conservatorium of Music, Adelaide University. He was later appointed Senior Lecturer at the Queensland Conservatorium of Music where he taught for over twenty years.
Vick's compositions include many choral works - for a cappella chorus, chorus with organ or piano, and for chorus with symphonic band. He wrote a Concerto for Harp and String Orchestra at the request of the American harpist, Phyllis Schlomovitz as well as other harp works. He also wrote organ works for Robert Boughen, piano works for Piers Lane, as well as incidental music.
