Description
Burton, Daniel: Burton: Ukrainian Christmas Carols for Pedal Harp
Geographically situated between East and West, Ukraine developed its own musical traditions, which contain both Asian and European elements. Stringed instruments include the popular bandura, exhibiting characteristics of the lute and the zither, as well as the tsymbaly, a type of hammered dulcimer. Orchestras of these instruments perform especially in concert with Ukrainian folk singers. The choral tradition of the Eastern Church is also heard in the fabric of Ukrainian music.
