Description
Trevor Baca: Vein for Flute, Viola and Harp. Winner of the Debussy Trio Music Foundation's 1996 Composition Competition. Score, flute, and viola part included. Duration: 5’
Vein alternates material for different groupings of the three instruments in the piece. Opening material invokes all three instruments at once to frame and later intersect slowly repeated and rising notes of the harp played près de la table, viola pizzicati snapped against the fingerboard, and passages of different dynamics mirrored exactly between the flute and viola and set to a single interval. The piece closes with the gesture of falling snow.
